Panmure Speed, Agility & Athlete Development

Performance Testing Overview

Athletes in our Panmure Speed, Agility & Athlete Development Program at Aspire Academy NZ recently completed baseline performance testing as part of their long-term athlete development pathway.

These assessments provide objective insight into each athlete’s current physical capabilities and movement patterns. All results below reflect the best valid attempt recorded on the day.

Why We Test

At Aspire Academy NZ, performance testing is used to inform coaching and guide development, not to compare athletes against one another.

Testing allows us to:

  • Establish clear baseline measures

  • Identify strengths and development priorities

  • Ensure training is age-appropriate and technically sound

  • Track progress over time

This approach ensures athletes are supported according to their stage of development, not rushed toward outcomes before foundational skills are in place.

What Was Tested

Athletes completed the following assessments:

  • 10m Sprint – acceleration and first-step speed

  • 5–10–5 Agility Test – braking, change of direction, and re-acceleration

  • Broad Jump – horizontal power and coordination

  • Countermovement Jump (CMJ) – vertical power

  • Grip Strength (Right / Left) – general strength indicator

  • Mid-Thigh Pull – whole-body strength measure

  • Push-Ups (60 seconds) – body control and strength endurance

  • Supine Pulls – pulling strength and shoulder control

Interpreting the Results

Performance testing captures performance at one point in time and is influenced by factors such as growth, coordination, fatigue, and prior training exposure.

For this reason, we encourage parents and athletes to:

  • Focus on individual progress, not comparison

  • Use scores as reference points, not labels

  • Understand that development is non-linear, especially in youth athletes

Movement Fundamentals: A Key Focus of the Program

In addition to recording scores, our coaches carefully observe how athletes move throughout testing.

While upper-body control during exercises such as push-ups was one example of an area identified,

the broader focus of the program is on improving overall movement fundamentals, including:

  • Body control and coordination

  • Stability through the trunk and hips

  • Jumping and landing mechanics

  • Acceleration and change-of-direction technique

These fundamentals underpin all future performance development and are prioritised before increasing training intensity or load.

What Happens Next

These results will be used to:

  • Guide upcoming training sessions

  • Inform coaching cues and progressions

  • Track improvements later in the program

Athletes are encouraged to view testing as a starting point, with the goal of improving both movement quality and performance capacity over time.

If you have any questions about your athlete’s results or how they will be applied within training, please contact our coaching team.

We look forward to supporting each athlete’s continued development at Panmure.
